She would be the head nun of an Abbey

Her responsibilities included:

Taking care of the internal and external affairs of her abbey

Discipline & Organization

Making sure the well-being of her covenant is kept

She most likely came from a wealthy family
-
Normally nuns were forbidden to go on pilgramages
-
However since she is a Prioress, not subject to strict rules of nuns
